Frame for the costume opening
Choose a front-facing or slightly turned portrait with the forehead, eyes and chin visible. The face occupies a small opening in the suit. A large hat or hair covering an eye can make the edge look uneven as the character moves.
Follow the character through color changes
Watch the preview all the way to the lip of the hole. Track the face through the costume changes rather than identifying the lead by color alone. Put that person’s photo in the Face in the costume slot.
Inspect the fall in motion
Check the last clear view of the face before the character drops, then play through the landing. The muddy rim should briefly cover the falling character. A face disappearing behind the rim can be a normal part of the shot.
